Oregon State Board of Bar Examiners says that the applicants must have a J.D. or L.L.B. degree from an ABA-accredited law institution. So, for those who want to take the state’s bar examination in the future. There are some exceptions, however.

Admission Process

Oregon Supreme Court approved several amendments to the Rules of Admission, that may affect on Jan 1, 2022. The Amendments will affect the following stakeholders:

  • Temporary Practice License while admission application is pending
  • Applicants for, & present holders of, a house-counsel License
  • Certified Law Students (expansion of activities permitted under the law student appearance rule)
  1. House Counsel License will be required to certify that they have to continuously meet the requirements for maintaining their house counsel license on or before Oct 1, 2022, & will be required to annually re-certify compliance with the maintenance requirements.
  2. The Law Student Appearance Program (RFA 13.05.et seq.) has been expanded to allow law student certified under the program to engage with litigation-related activities such as taking depositions, statements under oath and the preparation of affidavits and declarations of witnesses. Negotiations and investigations are allowed provided that the actions are related and relevant to an active and eligible litigation matter. Law students who are certified by the Program can also engage in non-litigation activities such as client intake, document drafting, contract negotiation, document related to real estate and personal properties, and business formation.
  3. Qualified applicants will be granted Temporary Practice Licenses if they apply for one and pay the fee. A current Oregon State Bar member must supervise the Temporary Practice License activities. To be eligible for a Temporary Practice License, applicants must have a current application for admission that is valid under one of these rules (application type).

a. RFA 15.05 (“Reciprocity”)

b. RFA 16.05 House Counsel

c. RFA 17.05 (Out-of-State Active Pro Bono);

d. RFA 18.05, Admission of Military Spouse; or

RFA 19.15 (Transfer UBE Score/Nonu BE Remote Bar Exam Score).

Oregon Bar Exam Application Fee

Below mentioned are the Oregon Bar Exam Fee details for the applicants, Law Professor, Military Spouse, etc… So, applicants need to pay the fee as per the below-mentioned guidelines as well:

a. The investigation fee required for lawyer applicants applying to take the bar exam will be increased to $600. This will be in addition to the standard $750 application fee.
b. UBE Score Transfer, Law Professor, and Military Spouse Applicants will pay a flat application fee of $1,350;
c. Reciprocal Admission Applicants will pay a flat application fee of $1,750;
d. House Counsel and Foreign Law Consultants will pay a flat application fee of $2,500.

Scoring & Grading

To pass the Oregon Bar Exam, applicants must score at least 274. This equates to 137, based on MBE’s 200 points scale. And, the scores of Oregon UBE sections are weighted as follows: MBE 50% & MPT 20%. Oregon makes bar exam results available approximately six weeks after the exam.

The Oregon Board of Bar Examiners (BBX) is the body that administers the Uniform Bar Examination as a component of the Oregon bar exam. It consists of six essay-based questions, is the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) 200 multiple-choice questions that comprise that are part of the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) as well as two 90-minute performance tests known as the Multistate Performance Test (MPT). This is how the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) grades for the MBE part of the UBE. The BBX evaluates the MEE and MPT parts. a score of MEE, as well as MPT, is compared according to those of the MBE along with the UBE total scores. They are then calculated by NCBE. Oregon Laptop & Registration Information

Oregon State Gove Board of Bar Examiners announced that examiners will be permitted to use personal laptop computers, which have installed & registered ExamSoft’s Softest. This exam will be administered using ExamSoft’s FlexSite, an Internet-based exam delivery option & is being offered to all examiners who have filed their applications to the Oregon State Bar examination, & who’ve signed up & completed the registration of Softest.

Applicants must have to pay the non-transferable/non-refundable $140 laptop user fee during the required time period. A laptop user fee is payable at the time of registration.
