Background Investigation
Since September 2, 2009, as of October 2, 2009, the Character Report form has changed. Forms submitted using the old form or the new version are accepted by the Committee on Character & Fitness.
It is required to fill out the “Character report”.

It’s not required to be included in conjunction with your Application for Admission. You can take the bar exam without having completed the Character Report. There isn’t a time limit for filing you to file your Character Report, nor late fee assessments.

It is recommended to allow 3-4 months to prepare your Character Report, and then a final review by the Court. The length of time that is required for each applicant is dependent on factors that are discovered in the background check.

Arizona Bar Exam Reciprocity

To be an eligible candidate for admission without taking the Arizona Bar Exam, the applicant must be a member in good standing of a reciprocating state bar & should have to engage in the active practice of law for 5 of the 7 years immediately preceding the application. And, the applicant must also be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school.

Scoring & Grading

MBE is weighted 50% of the total score, MEE part is weighted 30% of the total score, MPT is weighted 20% to determine if the applicant has achieved a minimum passing score of 273 points. A scaled score of 85 on the MPRE is required for admission within two years five years before a successful Arizona Bar Examination.

Note: Arizona won’t accept the transfer of any MBE Score from an exam taken in another jurisdiction.

Arizona Bar Examination

Arizona Bar Exam is a 2-day Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). Day 1 consists of 6 30-minute Multistate Essay Exam (EE) questions in the morning section & two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT), a 200 question, multiple-choice exam, where 100 questions are administered in the AM & remaining another 100 in the PM.
